Experience
Mary loves to work with individuals who are dealing with stressful life circumstances and desire to make positive changes in their lives. She enjoys helping her clients believe in themselves and their abilities. Mary also works with clients who are recovering from a divorce and need a fresh start with renewed confidence and a new outlook on life.
In addition, Mary has spent many years working with trauma victims. She understands the dynamics of domestic violence including verbal and emotional abuse and recovery from sexual assault.
As a Licensed Addictions Counselor, Mary works with family members of addicted loved ones.
Theory of Counseling
Mary Gauden Edmonson follows the Carl Rogers Person Centered theory of counseling. Following the Carl Rogers Person-Centered Theory means that each of us strives for “self actualization” meaning we strive to be the best that we can be during our lives. Mary endeavors to facilitate a positive environment for change by providing her clients with genuineness (openness and self-disclosure), acceptance (meeting you with unconditional positive regard), and empathy (being listened to and understood). Mary is a big believer in empowerment and authenticity and will do her best to help you tap into your true sense of self.
